In 1972 Charles Lallo Sr started “Lallo’s House of Charles” Men’s Wear in Hoboken, NJ USA.
It was a brick and mortar men’s clothing retail shop. He began his apprenticeship in 1948 as a men’s clothing specialist otherwise known as a “haberdasher”. It was the end of WWII and he was just recently honorably discharged from the US Army and seeking employment. He was directed to this shop where he became employed working for Herman and Pauline Gartner the owners of the then called, Gartner’s Men’s Shop. He remained there learning the business and serving the Hoboken community. In 1972 Herman Gartner was retiring and my father Charles Lallo Sr seized the opportunity to purchase the business and the property along with it. That was the start of,
“Lallo’s, House of Charles Men’s Wear”.
Being the only child of my father Charles and mother Rose I had spent time learning the business somewhat as a child working part time on Saturdays with my father and Mr. Gartner. My father was now the new owner and needed my help. There I was destined to spend much of my time and energy along side my dad serving the Hoboken Community for several years. I also embraced my own vision and aspirations. I kept them evolving as well. I believed it was my responsibility to give my support to this business that my father loved and that put food on our family table. However, thankfully, my father always encouraged and supported me in my aspirations. In hindsight I can see I learned much from my father, the business and the array of talented, educated and gracious people that we served in the Hoboken Community. Much love, happiness and joy was had by all. Beautiful memories abound.
It is to this that I am honored to present our
“Lallo’s House of Charles Online Store”.
This store is a commemoration to my father and to the beautiful community of Hoboken, NJ that is my extended family of friends. Together we shared the amazing experience of the time in the City we love. This online store is dedicated to the brick and mortar that many of us knew. At that time we had patrons from Hoboken/Jersey City, and surrounding areas including much of Hudson and Bergen Counties of New Jersey and many from New York City as well. It is to this entire community the Lallo family was honored to serve for all those many years. I wish I could mention every one of them.
I hope you enjoy your visit to the
